Abstract

The forms of production and use of information are among the main activities that compose the routines of the librarians work in the reference service. Considering that the university library is a complex organization in the space of universities and, in general, its activity is the service to the academic community (composed of students, teachers and administrative technicians) on the university tripod composed of teaching, research and university extension, it may be noted that it is in this space that it is usually clear and objective evidence of the information needs of users and the weaknesses that involve the issues of access and use of information. This, among other things, highlights the importance of information competence initiatives promoted to users in the processes of search and retrieval of information in university libraries.
