Identidade e língua: discutindo questões polêmicas das relações surdo-ouvinte

Abstract

This paper aims at reviewing concepts related to identity and language. Our aim is to discuss some aspects concerning the relationship between deaf and non-deaf people in Brazil, such as multiple perspectives on self-identification related to the status of deafness and the notion of native / non- native speakers and their roles in the deaf community. It is crucial to further discuss these relations. We analyzed the implicit power relations within these groups, seeking to counterbalance their points of view in order to present some difficult issues and possible misconceptions that emerge from the contact between these groups.
