Estudo para aplicação da tecnologia de aproveitamento energético de resíduos sólidos urbanos :um estudo de caso parao município de Magé/RJ

Abstract

In the face of the common problems in the urban centers related to the proper management of urban solid waste, in addiction to the increasing energetic demand in the country, that involve technical, economic, social and environmental issues, alternative technological solutions aims to contribute positively in direction towards achieving the objectives and directives established in the current regulations that address these matters, in the national and international scale. In this respect, the work aims to assess the conventional incineration, gasification and pyrolysis processes, three distinctive forms of solid waste treatment applied in waste-to-energy plants, to determine which is the most suitable, considering economic and environmental aspects, for the application of a case study to implement the technology as an alternative to solid waste management in the city of Magé/RJ. The results show that the option could be attractive to an economic and environmental point of view. However, the viability is strongly dependent of factors that present strong volatility and seasonality. The inclusion of a pre-treatment process in the energy production showed to be fundamental for the technical and economic viability of the project.
