Sobre uma nova relação índice de vazios tensão em solos

Abstract

ln this dissertation a study of the compressibility characteristics of soils subjected to oedometric compression tests is presented. A critical analysis of the empirical relationship between vertical effective stress (σ’v) and specific volume (v) is made. From this analysis a new relationship is proposed, with a rational basis, for the unidimensional compression phenomenon. A new process for obtaining the maximum past vertical stress (σ’vm) based on this new relationship is presented. It is also suggested, as an alternate solution for the determination of σ’vm, the utilization of Pacheco Silva's (1970) graphical construction directly on the compression curve log v x log σ’v. It is also studied, with less emphasis, the interdependence between secondary compression and the coefficient of earth pressure at rest (Ko).
