Vale Feliz: bairro, loteamento, condomínio ou comunidade?

Abstract

The study analyzes the evolution of the Vale Feliz settlement located in the municipality of Teresópolis (mountain region of Rio de Janeiro) from its origin in the early 1960s to the present day in order to find the factors responsible for the closure process private contractors and the construction of the condominium myth. It seeks to understand if the current problems in the Vale Feliz and the confusion about what is the Happy Valley (allotment, condominium, neighborhood or community) are in some way associated with the practices adopted by the Association of Residents and Friends of Vale Feliz - AMAFE. It also seeks to demonstrate, through the case study, the importance of geographic analysis for the understanding of social dynamics.
