Avenida Central: a reconstrução do cotidiano urbano

Abstract

The present work deals with the transformations that occurred in the central space of the city of Rio de Janeiro from the urban reform undertaken by then Mayor Francisco Pereira Passos. Given the scope of the study that deals with the issue of sanitation and housing, it also includes the multiple aspects of daily life - from leisure to informal labor - and to refer to a period in the history of the city where the public power had a strong performance on its physical space and, in parallel, through specific legislation, the research is restricted to the work carried out under the patronage of the public power that exemplified the moment of transformation through which the society of Rio de Janeiro passed - the construction of Central Avenue , current Avenida Rio Branco.
