Banco de leite humano: orientações na perspectiva de doação

Abstract

This is an exploratory descriptive search, with a qualitative approach, which was held in a public maternity hospital in Rio de Janeiro city. The subjects studied were 26 mothers, who were instructed about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, the objectives of the milk bank and the importance of surplus human milk donation. The object of study was the lack of knowledge of mothers on the importance of the milk bank, causing a decrease in donations of human milk. This study aimed: To show the ignorance of mothers on the milk bank, to discuss if this lack of knowledge difficults the expasion of human milk collect in the Unit and to assess if the donations are favored by knowing milk bank importance. The results indicate that the mothers are unaware of the goals of human milk bank and, specially, its need for donations. But when they are oriented, they are willing to donate, basically, motivated by a altruistic desire.
