Estudo do comportamento de lastros de materiais granulares sobre estacas com capitéis através de modelos reduzidos

Abstract

The present work aimed at the behaviour of bases for oil tanks, warehouses and storage yards made of granular material placed over piles with small circular caps. The importance of the following parameters has been evaluated with the aid of a small scale model: critical thickness of the base in relation to pile spacing and cap diameter, density and grain size distribuition of the granular material, external pressure, and two - and three - dimensional effects. The behaviour observed in the model were compared with that predicted by available theoretical methods. The following points were observed: i) the density of the base is an important factor; ii) the external pressure is a stabilizing factor; iii) the nature of the base material is important; iv) two-and three-dimension behaviour are quite different and (v) scale effects were not important in two-dimension model tests.
