Abstract

We examined 481 articles published in 11 Brazilian finance journals. Corporate finance and investment management were the most common subjects. Co-authoring is a dominant feature. The percentage of articles published in English is small. Productivity is concentrated in a few individuals and lower than that suggested by bibliometric theory. Most authors only published one article. The authors who have published five or more articles represent only 4.89% of the total, are present in 58% of articles analyzed and work in institutions in the Southeast and South. None of them published in the four largest impact finance journals and three quarters of their articles in the period are in low quality international journals. The CAPES evaluation system seems to stimulate partnerships, but international publications need much improvement. We suggested new incentives to be incorporated in the evaluation system in order to improve this situation.
