Do peixe ao lixo: transformações urbanas e seus efeitos na produção de espaços sociais no Itanhangá

Abstract

Located in the west zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Itanhangá is a carioca district located at the edge of the Tijuca’s Lagoon and at the “funds” from the Barra da Tijuca district. It establishes neighborhood relationships in which they produce a dichotomy between popular constructive patterns and shut condominiums. Therefore, the objective of this academic paper is to present a small case study about the complex relations of local neighborhood and its social peculiarities, different uses and living conditions; of the representations that comparison establishing with way of living in Barra da Tijuca district; and appreciation of Tijuca’s Lagoon as landscape or resource, both mobilizers of economic values and different local practices. With the secondary data, through qualitative analysis, explored analytically the possible social conflicts that have mobilized residents of Itanhangá from recent transformations occurred in that territory.
