Abstract

The objective of this paper is to discuss the environmental performance of Brazilian industry and its relationship with foreign trade. The following topics are addressed: arguments relating environmental control measures and competitiveness; analysis of the industrial emissions profile of the Brazilian export complex using input-output techniques; estimation of emissions avoided by the growth of industrial imports, also using the input-output model; estimation of control costs and their impact on the competitiveness of Brazilian industrial exports; classification of Brazilian industrial exports according to their export dynamism and pollution potential; international integration and competitiveness of industrial companies.
